Weber Amaral

PROFESSOR AT UNIVERSITY OF SAO PAULO - ESALQ (SUPERIOR SCHOOL OF AGRICULTURE LUIS DE QUEIROZ) AND FARMER

Weber obtained his Ph.D. and M.A. degrees from Harvard University, USA. He also holds a Master of Sciences degree from the University of Sao Paulo (USP), Brazil. His professional interests are in the nexus energy – food – water and the transition towards circular economy business models through innovation and entrepreneurship practices. He is a professor at the University of São Paulo - ESALQ and a partner at Venture Partners do Brazil, an investment and consultancy firm in São Paulo. He was the founder and CEO of the Brazilian Center for Biofuels (2005-2008) as well as a Senior Scientist at the International Plant Genetic Resources Institute - IPGRI based in Rome (2000-2005), where he coordinated the Global Forest Biodiversity Project. His professional career included working as a Research Associate at Harvard Business School and be the head of the Research Department of Papel Simāo (currently FIBRIA), a large pulp and paper company in Brazil. He has been a consultant for the Brazilian government, corporations and SMEs, UN - CEPAL, FAO, UNCTAD – Biotrade Programme, Brazilian Fund for Biodiversity (FUNBIO), NGOs and the private sector.
