Fernando Fontán


Fernando is the President of the Uruguayan Technological Laboratory (LATU), Latitud (LATU Foundation for Research, Development and Innovation) and LSQA (LATU + Quality Austria). He is an Electrical Engineer from the University of the Republic of Uruguay with specialization studies in France and Canada. He worked for more than 20 years at ANTEL (the leading company of Telecommunications in Uruguay) where he assumed different roles, such as Manager of the Information Technologies Division, Manager of the Strategic Planning Division and Director of New Technologies. He was in charge of ANTEL's Project for Processes Renovation and Organizational Restructure between 2008 and 2009. At the academic level, he has worked as a graduate and post-graduate professor at University of the Republic, Universidad Católica del Uruguay and Universidad ORT Uruguay. Fernando has developed consulting services for the incorporation of new technologies and management models for international telecommunication companies, and has given courses and programs for technical update and specialization in management and technology, in coordination with centers of excellence in Latin America.
